Alaska Bird Club Hosts Avian Medicine Seminar

By: Scott Ford, DVM, Dipl. ABVP-Avian
In September, 2007, I was blessed to be a guest of the Alaska Bird Club in Anchorage, Alaska. The club is dedicated to the education of its members in up-to-date care of pet birds and this shows by the number of great activities the club runs every year. They are also dedicated to the rescue or lost birds and volunteers spend many hours in this freely-offered service. The club also performs a great service to the bird community by hosting guest speakers every year for several years. This year's request was for a review of emergency medicine. They endured as I covered the most common problems seen in bird emergencies. We discussed what could be done at home and what could be done by veterinarians. Two veterinarians were also in attendance, with a total attendance of about 30 people! The event included a raffle which helped raise money for the upcoming year. Thanks everyone who came out and especially to those that organized the event, those that donated raffle items, and to those who purchased tickets too.
